NASA Deep Space Network’s New Goldstone Antenna Goes Online
The recently completed Deep Space Station 23 (DSS-23) at NASA's Deep Space Network Goldstone complex near Barstow, California, was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 25, 2026. The 34-meter (114-foot) multifrequency beam-waveguide antenna is the latest addition to the DSN's Aperture Enhancement Project, which began in 2009 and is adding six new antennas to upgrade and expand the network.
DSS-23 can operate over multiple radio frequencies, making it versatile enough to support a wide range of deep space missions. By boosting the DSN's overall capacity, it will enhance NASA's ability to track spacecraft, send commands, and receive scientific data from faraway probes. The DSN is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the agency's Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Program.
