This panorama shows five antennas at the DSN's Goldstone complex near Barstow, California, in August 2026. The recently completed Deep Space Station 23 (DSS-23), a 34-meter beam-waveguide antenna, appears in the foreground at right, alongside three other 34-meter antennas: DSS-26, DSS-25, and DSS-24. At far right is the retired 26-meter 'Apollo Antenna,' built in 1967 for the Manned Space Flight Network and used to track Apollo missions.

NASA leadership and personnel joined dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at DSS-23 on Aug. 25, 2026. The antenna is the latest addition under the DSN's Aperture Enhancement Project, which began in 2009 to upgrade and expand the network by adding six new 34-meter multifrequency beam-waveguide antennas. These versatile dishes can support missions operating over different radio frequencies.

The DSN is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Program, and enables missions to track, command, and receive scientific data from faraway spacecraft.
