September 2026 Satellite Puzzler
Every month, NASA Earth Observatory features a puzzling satellite image, and the September 2026 edition is now available. The challenge asks readers to identify the location shown, share the clues they see, and explain what makes the place interesting or unique.
To participate, submit your response via the provided form and select "Puzzler Answer" as the topic, including your preferred name or alias. You can keep it simple with just a guess, or impress by identifying the satellite and instrument, the spectral bands used, or pointing out subtle details about the geology or history of the area. While there is no prize money or trip to space, the reward is puzzler bragging rights.
About a week after the challenge, the answer will be posted at the top of the page, along with a link to an Earth Observatory Image of the Day story that explains the image in more detail. The first person with the correct guess will be recognized, and especially thoughtful or interesting responses may be highlighted. By submitting, you acknowledge that your comments may be edited, excerpted, and published on the page.
